ABOUT Broken wheat upma and boiled eggs RECIPE

Broken wheat upma is a healthy and nutritious dish that is ideally served for breakfast. Broken wheat is full of fibre and this along with boiled eggs are a perfect food for weight loss. I have used carrots, capsicums and tomatoes in this recipe but you can add any vegetable of your choice.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 ½ cups broken wheat
  2. 2 tbsp Oil
  3. ¼ tsp Mustard Seeds
  4. ¼ tsp Cumin seeds
  5. ¼ tsp Asafoetida
  6. 1 onion chopped
  7. 8 to 10 curry leaves
  8. 2 tomatoes chopped
  9. 1 small capsicum cut into small pieces
  10. 1 carrot cut into small cubes
  11. 1 tsp Salt
  12. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  13. ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  14. 1 tbsp pav bhaji masala
  15. 4 cups water
  16. 2 boiled eggs

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a non stick pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and allow the seeds to sputter.
  2. Then add onions, curry leaves and saute for a few minutes.
  3. When the onions turn golden, add carrots and stir for about 5 minutes.
  4. Next add tomatoes and capsicums and stir for a couple of minutes.
  5. Then add red chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder and pav bhaji masala.
  6. Mix all the masalas well and add broken wheat.
  7. Stir for a minute and add water.
  8. Mix well and bring it to a boil.
  9. Then reduce heat, close a lid and cook for 10 to 15 minutes till most of the water has evaporated and the broken wheat and carrots are cooked.
  10. Serve the broken wheat upma hot with sliced boiled eggs for breakfast.
