Broken wheat upma and boiled eggs

Ingredients to make Broken wheat upma and boiled eggs

  • 1 ½ cups broken wheat
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • ¼ tsp mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp asafoetida
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 8 to 10 curry leaves
  • 2 tomatoes chopped
  • 1 small capsicum cut into small pieces
  • 1 carrot cut into small cubes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp pav bhaji masala
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 boiled eggs

How to make Broken wheat upma and boiled eggs

  1. Heat oil in a non stick pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and allow the seeds to sputter.
  2. Then add onions, curry leaves and saute for a few minutes.
  3. When the onions turn golden, add carrots and stir for about 5 minutes.
  4. Next add tomatoes and capsicums and stir for a couple of minutes.
  5. Then add red chilli powder, salt, turmeric powder and pav bhaji masala.
  6. Mix all the masalas well and add broken wheat.
  7. Stir for a minute and add water.
  8. Mix well and bring it to a boil.
  9. Then reduce heat, close a lid and cook for 10 to 15 minutes till most of the water has evaporated and the broken wheat and carrots are cooked.
  10. Serve the broken wheat upma hot with sliced boiled eggs for breakfast.
