We all sometimes feel that we a need a little addition to our meals to make it more tangy and spicy and we end up having our favorite pickle. But let’s add something more to that; let’s prepare a chutney so hot and flavorful that would easily go with anythingA very simple yet very tangy chutney which surely adds zing to any meal. Fresh red chillies are deseeded and ground with jaggery and tamarind. I tasted this chutney for the first time at my sister's place. She is an expert cook and she serves variety of such yummy snacks with this chutni. It just works wonders. This chutney can be served as a side dish with any meals or even as a dip with nachos, crisps, or simple vegetable crudité

Ingredients Serving: 15

  1. fresh red big chillies—12-15 no
  2. seedless tamarind—200 gms
  3. jaggery—250 gms,grated or crushed into small pieces
  4. salt—2 tspn or as per taste
  5. mustard seeds—1/2 tspn
  6. methi daana(fenugreek seeds)—1/2 tsp
  7. oil—1 tsp

Instructions

  1. Wash red chillies and let them dry for some time or clean them nicely with a wet cloth and then with dry cloth.Now deseed them or remove their seeds by making a slit.You can leave seeds of 2-3 chillies so that some spicyness is their in the
  2. Now cut the chillies into small pieces either with knife or scissors.
  3. Grate the jaggery and keep it aside.
  4. Now take a steel or glass big bowl and place a layer of chopped chillies in it followed by tamarind layer and then by jaggery .Now put salt on top of it.Repeat the layers like this until everything is finished.
  5. Keep this covered for 3-4 hrs so that salt leaves its water.Now grind it in a mixer in a smooth paste.
  6. Heat a pan and dry roast the methi seeds and grind them coarsely.
  7. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and methi seeds powder.Add this to the chutney and enjoy this sweet spicy sour chutni with anything you want.You can have it with roti,plain or stuffed paranthas,puris,plain rice or pulao upma,chillas
