Tender Jowar /Sorghum/Ponk/ Hurda Bhel

Ingredients to make Tender Jowar /Sorghum/Ponk/ Hurda Bhel

  • 250gms hurda (ponk or fresh tender jowar or sorghum)
  • 1 small onion,
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • finely chopped 1 green chili (hari mirch)
  • 2 to 3 teaspoon sweet tamarind chutney
  • 2 to 3 teaspoon green chutney
  • 2 tsp of lemon juice
  • 2 to 3 teaspoon chopped coriander leaves
  • ½ teaspoon roasted cumin powd
  • 2 tsp coarsely grinded peanuts
  • Sev to garnish
  • black salt or rock salt as required

How to make Tender Jowar /Sorghum/Ponk/ Hurda Bhel

  1. Rinse the hurda/Ponk in water for a couple of times. use a fine strainer to rinse these tender jowar.
  2. heat a pan. add the tender jowar and roast for 3-4 minutes on a low flame stirring often.
  3. remove and keep aside
  4. in a mixing bowl, add the chopped onion, tomatoes, green chili, the chutneys, salt, roasted cumin powder and chaat masala.
  5. add the roasted jowar. mix well
  6. sprinkle few drops of lemon juice, topped with chopped coriander leaves and sev.
  7. Add some coarsely grinded peanuts for that crunch.
  8. Serve the bhel immediathely
