Figs with Cardamom-Honey Cream and Pistachios

Ingredients to make Figs with Cardamom-Honey Cream and Pistachios

  • 8 figs
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or clarified butter
  • 1/4 cup or 60 ml malai
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/8 tsp cardamom powder
  • 2 tablespoons chopped pistachios

How to make Figs with Cardamom-Honey Cream and Pistachios

  1. Preheat your oven to 220 C.
  2. Destem the fig and cut each fig with a cross in the centre (as if to quarter it) but don't go all the way till the bottom. You want it to open up like a flower.
  3. Place the figs on a baking sheet and drizzle the ghee on top. Bake for 10 minutes or until softened. Cool for a few minutes.
  4. As the figs cool, make the creamy sauce by heating the malai, honey and cardamom together in a small saucepan while stirring. Let it come to a boil and then simmer for a couple of minutes until it thickens.
  5. Drizzle the malai on top. Don't drench the figs in it.
  6. Sprinkle chopped pistachios on top.

My Tip:

Like Nigella says, this recipe is especially useful when you buy figs and they are just too bland to have on their own.
