Ingredients to make Kalathappam rice cake

  • Raw rice 1/2 cup
  • Cooked rice 1/4 cup
  • Grated coconut 1/4 cup
  • jaggery syrup 1/4 cup
  • salt a pinch
  • baking soda 2 pinch
  • Water or coconut water about 1 cup
  • For frying,
  • Small onion,chopped 1/4 cup
  • cashew nuts 4 or 5,cut into pieces
  • Kismis 2 tbsp
  • coconut pieces ,chopped 2tbsp
  • ghee or oil 2 tbsp

How to make Kalathappam rice cake

  1. Soak rice for 2 hrs
  2. Grind the soaked rice with coconut, cooked rice and jeera,adding enough water to make a thick batter. Add salt and; baking soda. Keep aside for 20 min.
  3. Heat ghee in a pan,add cashew nuts,fry well.remove. then add kismis,fry well,remove.then fry coconut pieces,remove. Then put small onion,fry and remove.
  4. After 20 min,add all the fried ingredients in the batter. The batter should be of idli batter consistency.
  5. In a pan,heat the remaing same ghee,we used for frying, and; add 1 tsp ghee again to the pan.add the batter , cover and cook.for 20 min.insert a toothpick,if it comes out clean, it s cooked.
  6. Allow to cool it for some time, before taking out.

My Tip:

Jaggery,u can add according to ur taste.
