Parippu Payasam or Dal ki kheer

Ingredients to make Parippu Payasam or Dal ki kheer

  • Channa dal - 1/4 cup
  • Moong dal - 1/4 cup
  • Cracked wheat - 1/2 cup
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp
  • Cashews - 4
  • Coconut pieces 1-2 tbsp
  • Jaggery - 200 grams
  • Thick coconut milk - 1 cup
  • Thin coconut milk - 2 cups
  • Water - 1-2 cups

How to make Parippu Payasam or Dal ki kheer

  1. Roast the dals and the cracked wheat in ghee until fragrant. Keep aside.
  2. In the same pan, fry the cashews and coconut until golden brown. Keep aside.Make the jaggery syrup by boiling the jaggery and water together.
  3. Pressure cook the dals and cracked wheat with the thin coconut milk. Once cooked add jaggery syrup to it and bring it to a boil.
  4. Add the thick milk to it and turn off the heat after a minute. Add the cashew and coconut pieces to it.
  5. Serve asap.
My Tip: use ghee generously and use home made coconut milk for creamy sweet dessert
