ULUNTHU PARUPPU SATHAM/URAD DHAL RICE

Ingredients to make ULUNTHU PARUPPU SATHAM/URAD DHAL RICE

  • Raw rice 1 cup
  • Urad dhal ½ cup
  • green chillies 2
  • garlic 5 or 6 pods
  • curry leaves 1 spring
  • salt as needed
  • Shredded coconut ½ cup
  • water 3 ½ cup

How to make ULUNTHU PARUPPU SATHAM/URAD DHAL RICE

  1. Dry roast the urad dhal till it starts changing color.
  2. Wash the roasted dhal and rice together and keep aside.
  3. In a heavy bottomed pan or pressure cooker add the dhal, rice, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves.
  4. Add salt and water. Mix well.
  5. Cook in the pressure cooker until 3 or 4 whistles Open once the pressure releases. Fluff it up and serve hot.
  6. It tastes great with sesame seeds thuvaiyal.

My Tip:

Generally this urad dhal rice is served with sesame seeds thuvaiyal, you can server with coconut or any other thuvaiyal also as per your choice.
