ABOUT ULUNTHU PARUPPU SATHAM/URAD DHAL RICE RECIPE

It is a traditional healthy rice that serves genrally with sesame seeds thugaiyal.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Raw rice 1 cup
  2. Urad dhal ½ cup
  3. Green chillies 2
  4. Garlic 5 or 6 pods
  5. Curry leaves 1 spring
  6. Salt as needed
  7. Shredded coconut ½ cup
  8. Water 3 ½ cup

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the urad dhal till it starts changing color.
  2. Wash the roasted dhal and rice together and keep aside.
  3. In a heavy bottomed pan or pressure cooker add the dhal, rice, garlic, green chillies and curry leaves.
  4. Add salt and water. Mix well.
  5. Cook in the pressure cooker until 3 or 4 whistles Open once the pressure releases. Fluff it up and serve hot.
  6. It tastes great with sesame seeds thuvaiyal.
