Ingredients to make Pundi Gatti / Kara Pidi Kozhukattai

  • Raw rice - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut -1 cup
  • jeera - 1 tsp
  • salt - to taste
  • TO TEMPER :
  • Coocnut oil -2 tsp
  • mustard seeds -1/2 tsp
  • urad dal -1/2 tsp
  • curry leaves -few

How to make Pundi Gatti / Kara Pidi Kozhukattai

  1. *Wash and soak the rice for an hour.Then drain the water.In a mixie jar add the soaked rice,salt,jeera and grated coconut.Grind it to a coarse batter with enough water.
  2. *In a non stick pan add the oil and ingredients given under TO TEMPER,one by one.Pour the groun batter to it .Mix it in low flame.
  3. *Keep stirring the batter turns to a dough .Once done switch off the flame.
  4. *Take a little dough and make a oval or round shape.Arrange these balls in a idli cooker.Steam cook it for 10 -15 mins.
  5. *Serve hot with coconut chutney / sambar.

My Tip:

*Grind the batter to a coarse . *dont reduce the coconut amount else the dumplings will be hard.
