Hilsa fish head in Bengali style cabbage curry is a common Bengali dish relished by everyone.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Hilsa fish head 4
  2. Cabbage 1 medium size chopped
  3. Potato 1 large cut in medium sized cubes
  4. Onion 1 large
  5. Ginger garlic paste 1 teaspoon
  6. Tomato 2 medium chopped
  7. Green chillies 4-5 slitted
  8. Cardamom 3
  9. Clove 5
  10. Cinnamon stick 1 inch
  11. Bay leaf 1
  12. Jeera 1 teaspoon
  13. Jeera powder 1/2 teaspoon
  14. Coriander powder 2 teaspoon
  15. Kashmiri red chilly powder 1 teaspoon
  16. Turmeric 1/4 teaspoon
  17. Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
  18. Mustard oil
  19. sugar 1 teaspoon
  20. salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish head with turmeric and salt for half an hour and then fry till it's nice and crispy.
  2. To the same kadai add more mustard oil, add jeera, bay leaf, whole garam masalas.
  3. Add chopped onion, followed by ginger garlic paste, tomato, green chilly.
  4. After 5-10 minutes of sauteing add jeera powder, coriander powder, turmeric, salt, sugar, red chilly powder.
  5. Add the cabbage, mix and keep it covered.
  6. After 10 minutes add the potatoes, stir and let it cook in low flame for another 20 minutes approximately.
  7. Check and stir in between.
  8. Don't add water as it gets cooked in the water released by cabbage.
  9. After 20 minutes open the lid, increase the flame and stir it well for 5 minutes.
  10. Add the fish head and mix it well with the cabbage.
  11. Finally sprinkle garam masala powder and turn off the flame.
  12. Keep it covered for 10 minutes and serve hot with steam rice.
