Ingredients to make Upma with pepper

  • Roasted rava 1 cup
  • peppercorns. 12 - 15
  • jeera. 1/2 tsp
  • curry leaves. 8 - 10
  • Grated coconut 1/4 cup
  • oil. 4 - 5 tbsps
  • ghee. 1 tsp
  • salt. To taste
  • Juice of 1/2 lime
  • water. 2 cups
  • chana dal. 1 tsp
  • Udad dal. 1 tsp
  • Chopped coriander for garnish

How to make Upma with pepper

  1. Coarsely pound the peppercorns and jeera in a pestle and keep aside
  2. Keep the water for boiling in a vessel
  3. In a kadhai / wok, heat the oil.
  4. Add the pounded peppercorns and jeera followed by the city leaves and the dals.
  5. Add the rava and salt and mix well.
  6. Add the boiling water and turn down the heat to minimum
  7. Stir well till the water is nearly all absorbed and take off the heat.
  8. Add the ghee and grated coconut and mix well
  9. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot.

My Tip:

Vegetables like carrots, peas, cabbage or some type of beans could be added and boiled with the water. In such cases, increase the quantity of water by 1/2 cup.
