Nasi Goreng

Ingredients to make Nasi Goreng

  • For the spice paste:
  • 4 peppercorns
  • tsp nutmeg powder
  • 3 tbsp roasted cashewnuts
  • tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 ginger chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 5 garlic chopped
  • 2 green chilli chopped
  • 11/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tbsp oil
  • 1/4 cup lime juice
  • Salt to taste
  • For the Indonesian fried rice:
  • 2 cups rice
  • 3 onions sliced
  • 100 grams green beans
  • 3 carrots sliced fine
  • 1 large brocoli chopped
  • 1 bunch spinach chopped fine
  • 4 garlic pods chopped
  • 1 tbsp tomato puree
  • 200 grams boneless chicken sliced
  • 1 tbsp soya sauce

How to make Nasi Goreng

  1. Make the spice paste with the listed ingredients. Grind all the ingredients to form a smooth paste.
  2. Wash and boil the rice in a bowl or pan.
  3. Heat some oil, then deep fry 1/4 of the sliced onions till they turn brown. Saute the chicken, green beans, carrots, broccoli and spinach. Once this is cooked, keep it aside.
  4. Pour some more oil. Saute the remaining onions and garlic. Add in rest of the vegetables and stir well.
  5. Next put in the spice paste along with the tomato puree. Fry this for a minute or two.
  6. Add in the boiled rice. Also put in the kept aside chicken and veggies, soya sauce and salt to taste. Fry for some time on a low flame.
  7. Garnish with the browned onions and some roasted peanuts. Serve hot for best taste.
