It is a lesser known traditional sweet originated from Orissa

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Rice Flour 2 cups
  2. Water 1/2 cup
  3. sugar 1 cup
  4. Cashew nut powder 1/4 cup
  5. A pinch of salt
  6. Cardamom powder 1 tablespoon
  7. Milk 1 litre
  8. Chopped almonds for garnish
  9. Chopped pistachio for garnish

Instructions

  1. Soak the rice in water for about 5 to 6 hours
  2. Then wash and drain the water from rice and dry them under a fan and keep it aside.
  3. Grind the rice to a fine mixture.
  4. You can use the rice powder also for this recipe.
  5. Boil water in a deep pan. Add a teaspoon of oil and salt to this.
  6. Now gradually add the rice flour to the water and keep stirring. Make sure there aren’t any lumps.
  7. Lower the flame cover with a lid and cook for 5 minutes
  8. Transfer this mixture to a plate.
  9. Let it cool.Once cooled, knead it with your fingers so that it becomes a soft dough.
  10. Make small balls out of it. Boilsome water and drop these rice balls in boiling water for 4 to 5 minutes
  11. Take out and keep aside. You can also steam these balls
  12. Boil the milk on low flame until milk thickens.
  13. Add sugar, Cardamom powder and the cashew nut powder
  14. It will thicken your milk . Now one by one drop the rice balls into the boiling milk and continue stirring.
  15. Cook for 1 more minute and turn off the heat
  16. Garnish with chopped pistachios and almonds. Serve chill.
