Ingredients to make Suruttai Poli / Rolled Poli

  • For Outer wrap -
  • All Purpose Flour -1 Cup
  • Salt - 1/4 tsp
  • Oil -1 tsp
  • Water - as needed
  • oil -for frying
  • For Filling -
  • Roasted gram dal - 1/2 cup
  • Powdered Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Cashew nuts -2 tbsp (small bits)
  • Ghee -1 tsp for frying cashewnuts

How to make Suruttai Poli / Rolled Poli

  1. Take a bowl add the flour,oil and salt. Mix well.add the water and make a stiff dough.
  2. Cover it with a damp cloth and keep it aside for 30 mins. Meanwhile prepare the filling.Powder the roasted gram dal .Fry the cashews in ghee.
  3. Mix the roasted gram dal powder, Powdered sugar, fried cashew nuts. The filling is ready.
  4. Now take the dough, make a small balls and roll into a small thin circles using a rolling pin. Allow them to rest
  5. Now heat oil in a kadai , drop the pooris in hot oil, immediately flip it into other sides well and take it out from oil immediately.
  6. Place it in a plate and immediately spread the 2 tbsp filling and roll it tight.Keep it on a plate seam side facing down.
  7. The rolls would be soft when we made but after it cools down it becomes crisp.
  8. We can keep it for one week at room temperature when stored in an airtight container.

My Tip:

Remove poori from oil when half cooked. Poori should not turn brown. After removing poories from oil, spread the filling immediately or else the pooi will break
