Ingredients to make Junnu

  • Colostrum milk- 1 litre
  • Milk- 500 ml
  • Jaggery- 500gms
  • Pepper powder- 1 tbsp
  • Elachi- 6 ( crushed)

How to make Junnu

  1. Prepare jaggery syrup by boiling jaggery with little water and then filter it.
  2. In a thick vessel, add colostrum milk, whole milk, elachi, pepper , jaggery syrup and milk well.
  3. Take a large pressure cooker and pour 2 glasses of water and place the milk vessel and cover it with a lid or aluminium foil and then close the pressure cooker lid ( without whistle).
  4. Cook on low flame for 25 to 30 min and check if it is cooked and is in solid form.
  5. Remove from heat and allow it to cool for 30 min and then keep it in refrigerator
  6. Serve chilled
My Tip: If the colostrum milk is of 2nd or 3rd day after delivery of buffalo, reduce the quantity of whole milk to be added. It will be very jiggly if more milk is added.
