Sweet Plantain Roll Or Unnakay

Ingredients to make Sweet Plantain Roll Or Unnakay

  • 3 Plantains
  • 3/4 cup grated coconut
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 egg lightly beaten (optional )
  • 2 tbsp cashews
  • 2 tbsp Raisins
  • Ghee

How to make Sweet Plantain Roll Or Unnakay

  1. Steam cook the plantains until it's done. Peel and set it aside to cool.
  2. In a small pan add ghee and add the nuts and fry it. Drain and set aside.
  3. In the same pan add little more ghee & roast the coconut in medium flame.
  4. Once it slightly changes to golden brown colour, add the beaten egg and mix well.
  5. Switch off the stove. Add the nuts with coconut mixture.
  6. Split the banana into two and remove the black part.
  7. Mash the bananas with potato masher.(You can also use your hands)
  8. Make even balls out of it.
  9. Apply little ghee in your hands and flatten the balls in your palm ,one at a time.
  10. Place 1/2 - 1 tbsp of the coconut filling.
  11. Close the balls and roll it into cylindrical shape.
  12. Repeat the same until the balls are over.
  13. Have enough oil in a pan and deep fry the cylinders.
  14. Serve hot
My Tip: You can make it egg-free.It makes no difference. You can shallow fry this for a healthier option.But the taste will differ. The traditional taste comes by deep frying.
