Kolhapuri fish is a tasty and easy Maharashtrian fish curry served best with white rice. Providing step by step picture so that a person new to cooking can also make with ease.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. To marinate the fish -
  2. Fish 5 pieces
  3. Curd 1/4 cup
  4. Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon
  5. Ginger garlic paste 1 tablespoon
  6. Lemon juice 1 tablespoon
  7. Red chilly powder 1 teaspoon
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Masala to be ground
  10. Bay leaf 1
  11. Clove 6-7
  12. Peppercorn 1 tablespoon
  13. Cinnamon 1 inch stick
  14. Desiccated coconut 2 tablespoon
  15. Onion 1 medium chopped
  16. Tomato 1 medium chopped
  17. Mustard oil
  18. Salt
  19. Coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish with the ingredients mentioned for marination
  2. Keep it marinated for half an hour.
  3. Take mustard oil in kadai, to that add bay leaf, peppercorns, cinnamon.
  4. After a minute add onions.
  5. After the onion turns translucent add desiccated coconut.
  6. After 2 minutes of sauteeing the coconut add tomatoes
  7. Cook it till the tomatoes turn mushy and loses all its water. Add salt to cook faster.
  8. Allow this mixture to cool down then blend it into a fine paste.
  9. To the kadai add oil and add the fishes, cook on medium flame for 5 minutes till it's partially cooked.
  10. Pour the ground mixture with little water.
  11. Simmer till the fish is fully cooked. Check the salt.
  12. Add chopped coriander leaves and turn off the flame.
  13. Keep it covered for 10 minutes before serving.
  14. Serve hot with white rice
