About Baked Raw Banana Chips

‘Raw Banana chips’ plays an essential role in wedding or any festival feasts down south. It is also a popular option for munching as snack as they are nutritious than other chips varieties. As per traditional method, thin slices of raw, unripe banana are deep fried and seasoned with spices like pepper, red chilly powder, salt and more. Here, I have given a healthier version of raw banana chips that is baked with very little amount of oil. Baked Raw Banana Chips will perfectly suit those who are health conscious and doesn’t like to indulge in deep fried snacks. Many of us feel that baked chips lack crispiness or crunchiness that deep fried chips have. To overcome this, I have partially cooked raw banana in microwave, sliced them into thin slices, coated with coconut oil, haldi and salt; baked in OTG on moderate heat. Chips baked in this method are crunchy and tastes as good as the fried version.

How to make Baked Raw Banana Chips

  1. Take a large microwave bowl and fill it half with water. Place raw bananas and cook it for 5 minutes (with the skin) on MW High. The bananas should be partially cooked (Overcooking of bananas may affect the crispiness of the chips).
  2. The banana skin turns pale brown at this stage. Drain the water and let it cool.
  3. Peel the skin and cut partially cooked raw bananas into thin slices. Mix 1 tbspn of hot coconut oil, haldi and salt. Coat the banana slices with this paste evenly.
  4. Line the baking tray or any flat oven proof dish with butter sheet. Preheat the oven at moderate temperature.
  5. Arrange the banana slices in a single layer on the baking tray. Bake it for 6 minutes on moderate heat.
  6. Take the tray out and flip each banana slice and bake it for another 4 minutes so that its gets evenly baked on both the sides.
  7. Take care of the chips during the last few minutes to avoid over baking or burning.
  8. Once done, remove the tray from oven and let it cool. Store it in air tight container. These bakes chips stays crispy for about a week and tastes exactly like that of fried version.
My Tip: The baking time and temperature varies depending upon the size of the oven and also the thickness of the banana slices.
