ABOUT NARANGI MAKHANA PHIRNI RECIPE

A Kashmiri fusion dessert prepared with simple ingredients like milk, rice, makhana or lotus seeds and seasonal fruit. Without much ado about the recipe, lets get to the basics of preparing this classic dish.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 liter full crème milk
  2. 1/4th cup rice soaked In water and ground to a coarse powder
  3. 1/4th cup makhana, roast and ground to powder
  4. ½ cup sugar or as per taste
  5. 1/4th cup pistachio
  6. few kesar strands
  7. 1/2 tsp orange essence
  8. Few drops of orange color
  9. Some freshly squeezed orange juices
  10. 3 Green Cardamom

Instructions

  1. Heat milk in a deep pot.
  2. Add rice powder, makhana, cardamom, kesar and cook on low flame mixing at frequent intervals.
  3. Once, rice is well cooked in milk and the milk has reduced, add sugar and pistachio.
  4. Switch off the flame and let milk cool down a bit.
  5. Add orange color, essence and mix well.
  6. Finally ass orange pieces and mix well.
  7. Pour in earthen ware and let it set before you serve.
  8. Best served when chilled.
