Ingredients to make Green gram masala

  • green gram 250gm
  • Chopped onions 3
  • Boiled potatoes 2
  • chopped tomatoes 2
  • ginger garlic paste 2 tspn
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tspn
  • chilli powder 4 tspn
  • coriander powder 3 tspn
  • Garam masala 1 tspn
  • salt to taste
  • butter 2 tbspn
  • oil
  • water

How to make Green gram masala

  1. Soak green gram for 3 hours in hot water or overnight in cold water. Pressure cook on medium flame up to 2-3 whistles. You can pressure cook potatoes along with green gram.
  2. Heat a pan. Add oil as required to fry onions.
  3. Add chopped onions and ginger garlic paste and fry till raw smell goes.
  4. Then add chopped tomatoes and saute for 2 mins.
  5. Now add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and fry a minute and immediately add some water to retain the colour.
  6. Allow to boil for 2 mins. Then add smashed potatoes, boiled green gram, salt and garam masala.
  7. Mix well and Add required water to get gravy consistency. Close with a lid and Cook for 5-7 mins so that all masala flavours are absorbed by the gram.
  8. Add butter and remove from flame.

My Tip:

Can squeeze little lemon finally.
