ABOUT Stirfried Karela sabji RECIPE

This is a dry preparation of Karela, which is so delicious even without any sugar or jaggery.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Karela- 250 gms
  2. Onions- 2
  3. Salt
  4. Turmeric- 1/2 tsp
  5. Cumin seed powder- 1 tsp
  6. Coriander powder- 2 tsp
  7. Aamchoor- 1 tsp
  8. Fennel seed powder- 1 tsp
  9. Chilli powder- 1 tsp
  10. Garam masala- 1 tsp

Instructions

  1. First peel the bitter gourd and cut into circles or in small pieces.
  2. Sprinkle salt, mix and cover for half an hour.
  3. After half an hour again mix with hands properly and squeeze out all the water. This removes the bitterness.
  4. Now take a tbsp oil in pan. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Then add finely chopped onions and saute rill they become transparent.
  5. Add the bitter gourd pieces. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Check if the bitter gourd is cooked. If not then again cover and cook.
  6. Now add all spices and mix properly. Cover and cook for a minute.
  7. Garnish with coriander and serve hot with fulkas or daal rice.
