  • For slow cooking the beef
  • schezwan pepper (powdered) 20 gms
  • garlic powder 20 gms
  • sesame seeds (powdered) 10 gms
  • dry red chilli (powdered) 1 tbs
  • ginger powder 10 gms
  • chives 1 stem
  • light soy sauce 3 tbs
  • rice wine vinegar 3 tbs
  • celery seeds (powdered) 10 gms
  • chicken bone powder 20 gms
  • lemongrass 1 stem
  • crushed pepper 3 tbs
  • To saute
  • crushed garlic 2 tbs
  • sliced onion 2 nos
  • Capsicum half chopped
  • spring onion 1 stem chopped
  • celery 1 stem chopped
  • Chinese five spice powder 2 tbs
  • Salt to taste

How to make Chinese braised beef

  1. For cooking the beef
  2. add oil and then add the beef and stir
  3. add the ingredients and stir
  4. then add some water to top up and close the lid
  5. for sauté
  6. add the ingredients and sauté till well cooked
  7. once the beef is cooked, add the sautéed mix to the cooked beef broth
  8. cook till broth and beef reaches the desired flavor and thickness
  9. for me, I preferred the dish to be semi gravy so I cooked the dish with the lid open and with a medium to high flame.
  10. those who prefer the gravy version, cook with the lid closed
