Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 4 pieces of skinless rohu or katla fish
  2. 1/2 tablespoon turmeric powder
  3. 1 medium onion paste
  4. 1/2 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  5. 4-5 green chili slits
  6. 1 small cinnamon stick
  7. 1 small cardamom
  8. 2 cloves
  9. 1 bay leaf
  10. 1/2 cup curd or 2 large tablespoon
  11. 1/2 tablespoon kashmiri mirch powder
  12. Pinch of sugar
  13. 2 large tablespoon mustard oil
  14. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Clean the fish in cold water and stain the excess water. Rub salt and 1/2 tsp turmeric powder on both sides and keep aside for 10 mins. Meanwhile, prepare the onion and ginger-garlic paste.
  2. Heat oil in a deep bottom pan and shallow fry the fish pieces for 2-3 minutes.
  3. To the remaining oil, add the bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cloves and cardamom. Saute for a minute.
  4. Add onion paste and stir till the color changes. Now, add the ginger-garlic paste and cook till the raw smell goes off.
  5. Add salt, sugar, Kashmiri mirch powder and cook till the oil separates. Then, put the curd and stir continuously for 2 mins.
  6. Pour some water and bring it to boil. Add the fish pieces and cook on a low flame till the gravy thickens.
  7. Add some green chili slits and keep the pan lid closed.
  8. Serve with hot rice.
