ABOUT Chocolate Idli Cake RECIPE

An eggless steamed chocolate cake made with maida flour and semolina using idli maker. It is made using very less oil. Perfect for kids tiffin and snacks.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Maida - ½ cup
  2. Semolina   - ¼ cup
  3. Cocoa powder - 2 tsp
  4. Oil - 2-3 tbsp + for greasing idli pan
  5. Curd  - 3 tbsp
  6. Sugar - 3 tbsp (you can increase as per your taste)
  7. Milk - ¼ cup
  8. Baking Soda - ¼ tsp
  9. Baking powder - ¼ tsp
  10. Vanilla Essence - ½ tsp
  11. Colourful Sprinkles and chocolate sauce for serving
  12. Water as required for steaming
  13. For chocolate sauce :
  14. Chocolate - 20 gms
  15. Cocoa powder - 1 tsp
  16. Sugar - 1 tbsp
  17. Milk - 2-3 tbsp

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl add the curd and sugar. Whisk it nicely till the sugar is dissolved completely.
  2. Add baking soda and semolina, mix well and keep aside for about 10 mins.
  3. Seive the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder and mix well.
  4. Add oil, vanilla essence and milk to the curd mixture and mix well.
  5. Heat water in idli steamer. Grease the idli plate with oil and set aside. Add the flour mixture to the curd mixture and fold gently to make a smooth batter.
  6. Now spoon this into the greased idli plate and steam for 10 mins on medium heat. A toothpick inserted should come out clean.
  7. Meanwhile melt the chocolate and sugar. Add cocoa powder, milk, mix and stir well and make a smooth sauce.
  8. Remove the cake plate from the steamer and let it cool down for few mins.
  9. Take out the cake from the plate slowly. Serve chocolate sauce and sprinkles or can just serve at it is.
