Ingredients to make Bangda Curry / Mackerel Curry/ Mackerels in Hot Coconut Sauce

  • Mackerels 4 No.
  • For Marination-Turmeric powder, Kashmiri chilli powder, Ginger Garlic paste and Salt
  • For Grinding / Coconut Sauce :
  • Fresh Coconut 1
  • Dry Red chillies Kashmiri / Bedgi, as per individual choice
  • Small ball of tamarind
  • Turmeric 1 tspn
  • Coriander Seeds/ Dhania Sukha 1 tbspn.
  • Black peppercorns 5 no
  • Small onion
  • Few pods of garlic
  • Fresh dhania springs
  • Salt
  • Coconut Oil/ Any oil of your choice
  • Hing - a pinch ( optional)

How to make Bangda Curry / Mackerel Curry/ Mackerels in Hot Coconut Sauce

  1. Chop fish head and take out innards..(guttin)
  2. Wash under running water well but dont over handle it..
  3. Marinate with ingredients given in marination list and keep aside
  4. Mix all ingredients under grinding / sauce and grind into very smooth paste, adding water gradually. Keep aside
  5. Heat oil, add pinch of hing (opt) and crushed garlic pods (opt.)
  6. Add freshly ground paste and saute on low flame till oil separates from side, max 5 minutes.
  7. Add fish very slowly and gently, saute it with sauce...
  8. Cover and cook for only five minutes.
  9. Add water slowly and boil as per desired consistency.
  10. Check salt..and let curry boil
  11. Fish cooks very fast so pls be alert and keep watch. After first boil switch off flame and cover the pot.
  12. Sprinkle fresh dhania.Serve with plain white rice
My Tip: Don't stir the curry vigorously as fishes are very delicate and may dissolve and break. This will spoil the curry and boil in low Flame
