Saag Papaya / Kancha Peper Ghonto

Ingredients to make Saag Papaya / Kancha Peper Ghonto

  • Raw papaya big 2
  • potato 1 big, cubed
  • dal badi 10 nos
  • yogurt 1/2 cup
  • raisins 2 tsp
  • peanuts 2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • Whole garam masala 1 tsp
  • bay leaf 2
  • turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Green chilli 4
  • Grated coconut 2 tsp

How to make Saag Papaya / Kancha Peper Ghonto

  1. Wash and cut papaya in slices
  2. Grate them
  3. Keep aside
  4. Now roast peanuts
  5. Heat 2 tsp oil, fry dal badi until red, add little turmeric powder and salt
  6. Keep aside
  7. Fry potatoes with salt and turmeric powder, until they are red
  8. Now heat oil again
  9. Add bay leaf and whole garam masala
  10. Saute for 1 mins
  11. Add panch phoron
  12. Saute for 1/2 mins
  13. Add grated papaya
  14. Add salt and turmeric powder too
  15. Now cover and cook for 10 mins, in low heat
  16. Add green chilli
  17. We will not add any water, as papaya has lots of water in it, so we will use that water .
  18. Again cover and cook for 10 mins, in low heat, stir in between
  19. Add raisins
  20. Again cover and cook for 5_7 mins
  21. Now add coconut
  22. Mix and stir for some time
  23. Add fried potatoes at this stage
  24. Cook for 5_6 mins, with cover again
  25. Once the potatoes and papaya are cooked well, remove cover
  26. Add yogurt
  27. Let all the water drying up
  28. It will look like this
  29. Add garam masala
  30. You can add little sugar also, adjust your spice level
  31. Add little ghee also, optional
  32. Serve hot with rice or roti
