Moong Masoor Dal

Ingredients to make Moong Masoor Dal

  • 1/2 cup moong dal
  • 1/2 cup masoor dal
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric ( haldi )
  • 1/2 tsp jeera ( caraway seeds )
  • 1/4 tsp hing (asafoetida)
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp oil or pure ghee
  • Fresh coriander leaves - handful

How to make Moong Masoor Dal

  1. Wash both dals thoroughly
  2. Put 4 cups of water in a pan.
  3. Add both dals to pan . Add haldi and salt
  4. Boil for 15 mins on medium flame and keep aside
  5. Tadka ( seasoning for flavouring the dish ) -- heat oil in a kandhari or deep cooking pot
  6. Add jeera till it crackles
  7. Add hing and onions and cook till golden brown
  8. Add tomatoes, red chillies powder and 1 tbsp water. Cook for 2 mns
  9. Add the above tadka paste to hot dal
  10. Garnish with fresh dhania leaves
