Ingredients to make Aam dal/ Split red gram with raw mango

  • Arhar dal 250 grams washed
  • 1/2 raw mango cut into cubes
  • Ginger grated 1/2 tsp
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Panch phuran/ five types of Indian spice blend - fenugreek, cumin, coriander, mustard & fennel
  • 2 dry red chilli
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 2-3 tsp
  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped
  • 2 green chillies

How to make Aam dal/ Split red gram with raw mango

  1. Boil the lentils with 2 cups of water
  2. In a kadai heat oil and add dry red chilli and five spices 1 tsp
  3. Add the mango and saute for 2-3 mins
  4. Transfer the boiled daal in the kadai.
  5. Add bay leaf, ginger, turmeric, salt and let it boil for 4-5 mins.
  6. Serve it with fresh coriander leaves and green chillies.
My Tip: Be careful while transferring the dal in kadai, as it will evaporate heat.
