Whole Green Moong Dal

Ingredients to make Whole Green Moong Dal

  • Whole green moong - ½ cup soaked
  • Water - 1½ cups
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Onion - 1 chopped finely
  • Tomato - 1 chopped finely
  • Coriander powder - ½ tsp
  • Cumin powder - ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves chopped

How to make Whole Green Moong Dal

  1. Take the soaked dal in a pressure cooker. Add ½ cup water and pressure cook for 3 whistles. Let the pressure release by itself.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let it crackle. Add onions and salt. Saute till onions becomes soft. Add finely chopped tomatoes and cook for till it is mushy.
  3. Add cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and red chili powder. Mix it well and cook for a minute. 
  4. Add the cooked whole green moong dal. Add 1 cup of water. Mix well and let it simmer for around 5-10 minutes. You can adjust the consistency as per your requirement.
  5. Add chopped coriander leaves. Turn off the heat and add lemon juice. Mix well and serve.
