Ingredients to make Peshawari chhole

  • Chhole 2 cups
  • Onions 2 , sliced
  • Tomatoes chopped 2 large
  • 2 chopped green chilli
  • Ginger 1 grated
  • Garlic pods crushed 4
  • salt as per taste
  • Tea bags 2
  • 2 cardamom
  • Cinnamon 1 inch
  • Pomegranate powder 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Cumin powder 1 tsp
  • Oil , as required
  • Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp Lemon juice

How to make Peshawari chhole

  1. Wash and soak kabuli chana for 6_8 hrs
  2. Drain water
  3. Pressure cook for 4_5 whistles , with 4_5 cups of water , cardamom , cinnamon and salt
  4. After whistle , simmer the heat and cook another 10 mins
  5. Keep aside for 15 mins
  6. Add 1 tbsp oil
  7. Add onion , fry until they are light brown in colour
  8. Now add chopped tomatoes , green chilli , ginger and garlic paste
  9. Saute for 4_5 mins
  10. Add chilli powder , cumin powder , coriander powder , turmeric powder and pomegranate powder
  11. Also add Garam masala
  12. Cook until tomatoes are soft and oil separates from the masala
  13. Now add boiled chickpeas along with the spices , reserve 1 cup of boiled water for gravy
  14. Stir oil , add salt
  15. Now simmer the heat , cook chickpeas for another 10 mins , cover with a lid , medium heat
  16. Now add water boil in medium heat 5 mins
  17. Add garam masala
  18. Garnish with coriander leaves and lemon juice
