Chana dal-Palak

Ingredients to make Chana dal-Palak

  • Spinach leaves- 2 bunches
  • 1 big onion chopped
  • Dill/suaa leaves - 1/4 bunch
  • Chana dal (Bengal gram)- 1 cup
  • Potatoes- 1 (cut into small cubes)
  • Mix Vegetables - 1 cup (Gajar french beans patta ghobi)
  • Tomatoes - 3 (medium sized cut into small cubes)
  • Oil - 1tbsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Green chillies - 2 (chopped)
  • Ginger- 1 piece (grated)
  • Garlic cloves - 4 chopped finely
  • Coriander powder - 2 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Water - 2 to 3 cups
  • Salt as per taste

How to make Chana dal-Palak

  1. Clean all the leaves properly under running water, chop them and keep them aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds and fry for a minute. Add chopped onions, ginger, green chillies, garlic and fry on medium heat.
  3. Add the veggies and tomatoes to it. Fry for 3-4 minus. Sprinkle coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and mix well. Add all the chopped leaves and cook for 3-4 mins.
  4. Add salt, mix well and cook for 5 mins on medium flame. Mix in the chana dal and water. Cover the pressure cooker with the lid,cook on low flame for four to five whistles to blow.
  5. Switch off the flame and when the pressure reduces, open the lid and mash the whole thing with a churner. Transfer it to a serving bowl and serve hot.
  6. Enjoy this exotic vegetarian dish with steamed rice. I have served it with arbi took(shallow fried) and boondi raita.
My Tip: You can use any time of vegetables. After mashing dal palak give tadka of garlic chopped into small pieces with ghee. Amazing flavor.
