Baked Chana Dal Flan or Kadalaparippu Pola

Ingredients to make Baked Chana Dal Flan or Kadalaparippu Pola

  • Chana dal 1 cup
  • Eggs 6
  • Grated jaggery 1 cup
  • Crushed cardamom 2
  • Salt a pinch
  • Water as required to cook the dal
  • Dry fruits for garnishing (I have used almonds and raisins)

How to make Baked Chana Dal Flan or Kadalaparippu Pola

  1. Cook chana dal in water with little salt. I did not pressure cook, but in a closed pan.
  2. Once cooked, drain water and grind into a fine paste.
  3. Now mix together this dal paste, eggs, jaggery and cardamom with a pinch of salt in the big jar of mixer grinder.
  4. Preheat the oven to 180 degree centigrade.
  5. Line a loaf tin with parchment paper. Grease it well.
  6. Pour in the batter (it would be watery, as compared to cake batter).
  7. Bake for 40 minutes
  8. 15 minutes before the baking completes, throw in the dry fruits.
  9. Do the toothpick test. If a toothpick inserted comes out clean, then it is done.
  10. Allow to cool, and then cut into desired shapes.

My Tip:

I baked in a loaf tin and hence baked for 40 minutes. If you use a flat tin, you might have to check after 30 minutes or so.
