Savory Oats Scones

Ingredients to make Savory Oats Scones

  • 1 cup Rolled Oats
  • 1 ½ cups Whole Wheat flour (homemade)
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 2 tbs Baking powder
  • ½ tsp Baking soda
  • ½ cup Butter
  • ½ cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp Mixed Italian herbs
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • ½ cup Spinach, chopped
  • 4 leaves of Cuban oregano chopped

How to make Savory Oats Scones

  1. Pre-heat your oven at 200C. Combine oats, wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and chili powder using spatula in a bowl.
  2. In a bowl rub cold butter with flour using your fingertips. Make soft dough by adding buttermilk. Knead by adding mixed herbs, freshly chopped spinach and Cuban oregano.
  3. Gently shape the dough into circle of ¾ th inch thickness and cut into wedges.
  4. Place them in the baking tray and bake for 20-25 minutes or till golden brown.
  5. While baking give milk-sugar wash in the scones twice. Leave to cool on rack before serving.

My Tip:

I added the fresh herbs to increase flavor and taste.
