Lobia Masala Curry

Ingredients to make Lobia Masala Curry

  • 1 cup lobia beans/black eyed beans/ chawli daal (soaked)
  • 2 tbsp channa dal
  • 2 medium size onions
  • 2 medium size tomatoes
  • 2-3 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 small piece Ginger
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1tsp coriander powder
  • 2tsp red chilly powder
  • 1tsp turmeric
  • 2tbsp cooking oil
  • Salt according to taste
  • Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

How to make Lobia Masala Curry

  1. Wash and soak the chawli / lobia for 5-6 hours.
  2. Peel and chop the onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and green chilies.
  3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add chopped onions, ginger, garlic, green chilies and tomatoes, mix well, saute this for 5-7 minutes until oil is separated from the gravy.
  4. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilly powder and salt to taste, mix well and saute for a minute.
  5. Now add Lobia, channa dal and water approx 3-4cups, cover the pressure cooker lid and allow 3-4 whistles.
  6. Indian lobia curry is now ready. Garnished with coriander leaves, sprinkle garam masala.
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice.
