Dal Tadka

Ingredients to make Dal Tadka

  • 2 Cups Toor Dal
  • 1 medium Onion,finely chopped
  • 1 small tomato, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 3 cups water
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp Red chilly powder
  • 5 to 6 Curry leaves
  • 2 to 3 Red chillies
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • Coriander leaves
  • Asafoetida a pinch

How to make Dal Tadka

  1. Wash and rinse Toor dal. Pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles.let it cool and mashes it well.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add cumin seeds let it crack.
  3. Then add curry leaves, onion and garlic.Saute and add tomatoes.
  4. Add salt, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and coriander leaves.Put this mixture into above cooked and mix well.Let it be in low flame.
  5. For tempering:
  6. Heat oil, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, red chilly powder, red chillies and chopped garlic and pour in above dal. Serve hot.
My Tip: Can be servd with paratha, roti, rice, chapati or bread.Serve hot with finely chopped onions sprinkled with lemon n coriander.
