Lobia Masala Curry| Black Eyed Beans Curry

ABOUT Lobia Masala Curry| Black Eyed Beans Curry RECIPE

This is very simple to cook. It is nutritious and protein packed dish goes very well with chapatti or jeera rice/ pulao. This is one curry which is always in my weekly menu. Try this out and let me know how it turned out for you.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1 cup - soaked and boiled Lobia/ black eyed beans
  2. ½ cup – tomato puree
  3. ½ cup – onion, finely chopped
  4. 2 tablespoon – oil
  5. 1 bay leaf / tejpatta
  6. 1 teaspoon – cumin seeds / jeera
  7. 1 small – cinnamon / Dalchini
  8. ½ teaspoon – ginger paste
  9. ½ teaspoon – garlic paste
  10. 1 – green chilli, slit
  11. 1 teaspoon – cumin powder/ jeera powder
  12. ½ teaspoon – red chili powder (if you want spicy, I have not added)
  13. ¼ teaspoon – turmeric powder / haldi
  14. 1 teaspoon – garam masala
  15. 1&1/2 teaspoon – dry fenugreek / kasuri methi, crushed
  16. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak the lobia for 3-4 hours or overnight.
  2. Once the lobia is soaked boil it in a pressure cooker for 4 whistles.
  3. Prepare tomato puree and keep aside.
  4. Preparation- 1. In a pan, heat oil and add bay leaf, cumin seeds and cinnamon and cook for half a minute.
  5. Add ginger and garlic paste and sauté for 1 minute.
  6. Add chopped onions and cook for 2-3 minutes or till the onion become translucent.
  7. Now add tomato puree and cook for 5-7 minutes till it starts leaving oil.
  8. Add cumin powder, turmeric, red chili (I have skipped this red chili powder) and cook for 1 minute. Mix well and add green chili and stir to combine.
  9. Now when the masala blends well add boiled lobia/ black eyed bean and stir.
  10. When lobia blends well with masala, than add garam masala and salt. Mix it.
  11. At the end, add crushed kasuri methi and give a gentle stir. Lobia curry is ready to serve.
  12. Serve hot lobia curry masala with chapatti or jeera rice or any flavored rice.
