Boil dal with salt in a pan or pressure cooker till soft. Heat oil in a pan and fry the onion till translucent.
Add the tomato and cook till the tomato is tender. Mix in turmeric powder and red chili powder. Saute for a minute and add the fenugreek leaves/methi and cook till the methi leaves/fenugreek leaves turn its color.
Add this cooked methi masala to the cooked dal. Mix well. Now heat ghee/butter in a pan for tempering/tadka. Add the mustard seeds, jeera, who red chili, garlic cloves and curry leaves.
Add this tempering/tadka over the methi dal. Your methi dal recipe is ready to serve hot.
