Moong Dal Tehri

Ingredients to make Moong Dal Tehri

  • Husked moong dal - 1/2 cup soaked for 2 hrs
  • Rice - 1 cup washed and soaked for 15 minutes
  • Onion chopped - 1
  • Grated ginger garlic - 1 tsp
  • Cumin - 1/4 tsp
  • Cloves - 2
  • Cinnamon - 1
  • Big black Cardamom - 2
  • Bay leaf - 2
  • Green Cardamom - 2
  • Mace - 1
  • Water - 2 cups
  • Mint leaves few
  • Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric - 1 tsp
  • Refined oil - 2 tbsp
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Slit green chilies - 2

How to make Moong Dal Tehri

  1. Wash and strain soaked moong dal for 10 minutes
  2. Strain the soaked rice for 10 minutes
  3. Heat oil and ghee both in the cooker.
  4. Add cumin seeds to splutter.
  5. Add bay leaves and all the spices.
  6. Add the chopped onion and saute till transparent.
  7. Add turmeric and drained moong dal. Saute till it is dry.
  8. Add ginger garlic, saute till raw smell goes.
  9. Add rice, slit green chilies and garam masala powder.
  10. When all the ingredients have been sautéed well then add water and salt.
  11. Pressure cook two whistles or till done. After the pressure has been released, open the lid and fork up the rice Dal Tahiri.
  12. Add torn mint leaves.
  13. Enjoy with onion Raita and Papad

My Tip:

Drain and strain the Dal and rice well
