Plain Oats Khichdi with Vegetables

Ingredients to make Plain Oats Khichdi with Vegetables

  • Oats 2 cups
  • Vegetables (carrot, french beans, capsicum, potato, spinach leaves etc )
  • Onion chopped 1 large
  • Ginger 1/2 tsp
  • Bay leaf 1
  • Cumin seeds , Kalaonji seeds , methi seeds whole 1/2 tsp together
  • Cardamom 2
  • Cinnamon 1 stick
  • Cloves 2
  • Moong Dal 1/2 cup, black chana 1/2 cup washed, soaked for 6 hrs minimum
  • Ghee 1 tsp for tadka
  • Salt as required
  • Cumin powder 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli powder 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1/3 tsp
  • Water 3 Cups

How to make Plain Oats Khichdi with Vegetables

  1. Boil moong dal and Kala chana in a pressure cooker, for 2-3 whistles, or until they are soft enough
  2. In a nonstick pan heat oil 1 tsp
  3. Fry onion, ginger, until translucent
  4. Now add all the vegetables
  5. Add salt and turmeric
  6. Cover and cook for 10 mins , stir in between
  7. Now add oats
  8. Again fry them for 5 mins approximately
  9. Now add boiled moong and black chana
  10. Now put in the pressure cooker the oats, vegetables and pulses mixture again
  11. Cook for 1 whistle, in medium heat
  12. Now prepare the tadka
  13. Heat a tsp ghee
  14. Add bay leaf, whole cumin, coriander, methi and kalonji seeds
  15. Also add whole garam masala
  16. Add this to the khichdi
  17. Add garam masala
  18. Check for salt and other spices accordingly, switch off gas
  19. Serve hot with raita and salad
