Dal Fry

Ingredients to make Dal Fry

  • 1 cup chana dal
  • Water as required
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • Tomatoes chopped 2
  • 2 green chilli finely chopped
  • 2 inches long ginger
  • 5 pods of garlic
  • 2 tbsp of Kasuri methi
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • salt as per taste
  • Coriander leaves chopped for garnishing
  • For Tempering :
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder 1 tsp
  • 1/2tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp black mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp fennel seed
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 2 dry red chilli
  • Ghee 1 _2 tsp

How to make Dal Fry

  1. Wash and soak dal in water for 30 -40 Mins
  2. Pressure cook dal for 5-6 whistles with water, salt and turmeric powder
  3. Wait to release the vapour.
  4. Strain lentils ,reserve water
  5. Heat oil in a non-stick pan
  6. When it is hot, add grated ginger, garlic, green chillis to it
  7. Saute for some time, add chopped onion, saute until onion is light brown
  8. Add tomatoes and 1 tsp water
  9. Cook until tomatoes are soft
  10. Now add lentils
  11. Mix well with the masala
  12. Add reserved lentils water, salt and allow to boil.
  13. When it reaches the desired consistency switch off gas
  14. Temper with the given ingredients and pour over it.
  15. Garnish with coriander leaves and fried curry leaves
  16. Serve hot with rice
