Ingredients to make Bhindi Sambar

  • Toor dal 1/2 cup
  • Bhendi(okra) 250 gm
  • Cumin seeds 1/2 tea .spoon
  • Asafoetida (Hing) 1/4 tea spoon
  • Coriander powder 1/2 tea spoon
  • Oil 2 table spoon
  • Tamarind lemon size
  • Jaggery powder 1/2 table spoon
  • Turmeric 1/4 tea spoon
  • Salt as per taste
  • For tempering:
  • Mustard seeds 1/2 tea spoon
  • Fenugreek seeds(methi seeds) 1/2 tea spoon
  • Green chilies 6
  • Oil 1 table spoon
  • Curry leaves

How to make Bhindi Sambar

  1. Wash Toor dal and cook using pressure cooker until 4 whistles,
  2. In a pan add oil
  3. Add cumin and let splutter
  4. Add bhindi and saute for 1 min
  5. Add salt, asafoetida (Hing), coriander powder, turmeric saute for seconds
  6. Add tamarind juice and water, jaggery let it boil
  7. Add boiled dal let boil for 2 Mins
  8. For tempering:
  9. Add oil in a pan
  10. Add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, green chilies
  11. Saute for a min
  12. Add boiled dal and bhindi mixture to the temper bring to boil and switch off flame
  13. Serve hot
