Ingredients to make Rajma Chawal/Red Kidney Beans with Steamed Rice

  • Rajma / red kidney beans - 2 cups
  • Onion sliced - 2
  • Ginger paste -1 tsp
  • Garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • Tomatoe puree - 1/2cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1tsp
  • Jeera /cumin powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Red Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • garam masala - 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Coriander leaves
  • Steamed rice -1 cup

How to make Rajma Chawal/Red Kidney Beans with Steamed Rice

  1. Soak the beans overnight.
  2. Pressure cook till soft. Keep aside.
  3. Smash few beans with potato masher to get creamy consistency
  4. 4.Take a wok. Add oil , cumin seeds and fry.
  5. Add onions fry till pink. Add ginger garlic paste, tomatoes and sauté.
  6. Add turmeric powder, jeera powder, red chilli powder, garam masala and salt .keep sautéing.
  7. After few minutes add the boiled beans and keep stirring. If needed add some water and adjust the consistency as per your requirement.
  8. Rajma is ready.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with steamed rice.
My Tip: Pressure cook the beans in sim for about 1 hrs. ..this will make the beans soft from inside without breaking them.
