Squash Smash Healthy Dal

Ingredients to make Squash Smash Healthy Dal

  • 400 grams of red lentils
  • 1 medium sized Squash, cut into big chunks
  • half of cabbage, cut into fine chopped
  • 25 curry leaves
  • 2 1/2 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 2 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 4 tbsp garlic, chopped
  • 1/2tbsp asafetida(hing)
  • 5 green chilli, chopped or as required as per your taste
  • 4 tbsp sunflower oil
  • salt as per taste
  • water as required or 800 ml of water

How to make Squash Smash Healthy Dal

  1. Take a large size of non-stick pot or heavy pan. Start with the temper of daal. So very first heat the pan or pot on the stove, once the pan becomes hot add 4 tbsp oil into pan or pot.
  2. Once the oil becomes hot add mustard and cumin seeds & let them fry for 20 seconds on a medium flame of gas.
  3. Now add curry leaves, chopped garlic. chilies, asafetida and fry them till the aroma of temper spread all over the kitchen.
  4. Now add Squash and fry it with temper for a while. Then we will add the daal and mix it up with all the ingredients and now on this step, we will add chopped cabbage. Give it a good stir.
  5. Now season with salt and add water as per requirement. Cover the pot or pan with lead & Simmer this dal for 45 minutes.
  6. After 40 minutes the daal is cooked properly and Squash & cabbage also cooked very nicely. take a masher or hand blender ... smash or blend little bit the reason for blend because we want the smooth texture of dal.
  7. You can add some chopped coriander and mint leaves also.. but I didn't add any garnish to it. serve it with jeera rice.

My Tip:

1. You can use pumpkin instead of Squash. 2.Do not make this recipe on high flame. 3. Make sure the quality of lentil and ingredients as well as.
