Ingredients to make Narthangai (Citron) Rasam

  • 2 tablespoon - Moong Dal
  • 2 - Green chilies
  • 1- Tomato
  • 5 - Shallots
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • Citron - 1 big
  • Water - As required
  • Salt - as per taste
  • Coriander seeds - 1 tablespoon
  • Jeera - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Pepper - 1/2 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Asepotida - 1/4 teaspoon

How to make Narthangai (Citron) Rasam

  1. Pressure cook dal, shallot, coriander leaves, green chilli, and tomato till they become soft.
  2. Coarsely grind all the spices.
  3. Squeeze the juice from the citron.
  4. In a kadhai heat some oil and add mustard seeds and curry leaves. When they crackle, add cooked dal and spice powder.
  5. Add salt and let it boil thoroughly.
  6. Switch off the stove and let the rasam cool for 5 minutes. Add citron juice.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot. Adjust taste depending on the sourness of citron.
