Kathiyawadi Kadhi Khichdi

Ingredients to make Kathiyawadi Kadhi Khichdi

  • For Khichdi : rice 1 Cup
  • Tur dal ( soaked) 1/4 Cup
  • onion, chopped 1 teaspoon
  • cumin seed 1/2 teaspoon
  • cloves 3
  • cardamom 3
  • bay leaf 2
  • cinnamon stick 1/2 inch piece
  • turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • oil 2 teaspoon
  • salt
  • For Kadhi : curd 1/2 Cup
  • besan 1 tablespoon
  • onion, chopped 1 teaspoon
  • fenugreek seeds 1/4 teaspoon
  • cumin seed 1/2 teaspoon
  • Musturd seed 1teaspoon
  • Kari patta 8 to 10 leaves
  • green chilly 6
  • garlic 3 to 4 pieces
  • oil 2 teaspoon
  • salt to taste

How to make Kathiyawadi Kadhi Khichdi

  1. For kadhi : Add curd, besan, green chilly, garlic, turmeric powder, salt in mixer jar and blend it.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add onion, mustard seed, cumin seed, fenugreek seed, kari patta in it. After few seconds add kadhi mix and 1/2 cup water. Cook on high flame till one boil.
  3. For khichdi : In a pressure cooker heat some oil, add onion and fry till golden in color. Add the whole spices and cumin seeds. Add washed and soaked tur dal. Cook for a while and add salt and turmeric powder.
  4. Cook for few seconds then add rice with sufficient water to cook the khichadi. Give two whistles in pressure cooker and turn off the gas.
  5. Kadi khichdi can be served with salad or pickle.

My Tip:

If you want you can add any vegetables here. But this is the traditional way to make.
