ABOUT Tamatar Gosht (Tomato Mutton Curry) RECIPE

An easy one pot meal from my birthplace Hyderabad. It is the most loved dish of many here. It goes well with plain boiled rice as well as rotis too. It does not require any other side dish or an accompaniment because it has a lot of gravy already. Super yummy dish made very effortlessly too.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Mutton - 500 gm
  2. Ginger garlic paste - 1 1/2 tbsp
  3. Onions, finely chopped - 3 large
  4. Ripe tomatoes, finely chopped - 5 large
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Black mustard seeds - 1 tsp (optional)
  7. Oil - 3-4 tbsp
  8. Red chilli powder - 1 tbs
  9. Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  10. Whole green chilies - 3 - 4
  11. Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
  12. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  13. Cumin powder - 1 tsp
  14. Coriander leaves chopped a handful

Instructions

  1. Wash and clean the mutton pieces well. Marinate with the ginger garlic paste along with all the other spices and leave on the kitchen counter for 15-20 mins.
  2. Heat the oil In a pressure cooker, add the mustard seeds, once it crackles, add and saute the onions for a minute. Add tomatoes and saute for a minute.
  3. Now add the marinated mutton to it. Pressure cook for 7-8 whistles.
  4. Open the lid and allow it to simmer on high flame for the first 5-6 minutes. Let it simmer on medium flame for the next 5-6 mins. Add water as required. The consistency of the curry depends on one's taste. Medium thick is best.
