Instant Idli Upma

Ingredients to make Instant Idli Upma

  • Left over idlis - 7 to 8
  • Sliced onions -1
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp - Mustard and cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp - Split black gram
  • 1 tbs - Chana dal
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • Dry red chilies - 2 to 3
  • Lime juice for taste
  • Salt as per taste
  • Coriander for garnishing (optional)
  • Cooking oil

How to make Instant Idli Upma

  1. Heat oil in a pan. add cumin and mustard seeds. When they crackle add split black gram and chana dal. When dals change color add dry red chilies and curry leaves.
  2. Add pinch of turmeric and sliced onions. Fry the onions until they are cooked. Add salt as per taste and mix everything. Crumble the idlis with hand and add immediately to onion tadka mixture.
  3. Prepare idlis the previous day and refrigerate them so that they get little hard and crumble easily rather than freshly prepared idlis which are too soft,
  4. Mix everything and finally squeeze little lime juice and garnish with coriander. Serve hot.
My Tip: You can prepare idlis previous day and refrigerate them.
