Tomato Pickle Andhra Style

Ingredients to make Tomato Pickle Andhra Style

  • Tomatoes - 4 to 5
  • Methi dana /fenugreek seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds - 2 teaspoons
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chilli powder - 2 tablespoon
  • Chana dal - 2 teaspoons
  • Urad dal - 2 teaspoons
  • Heeng - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Crushed garlic - 2-3 pods
  • Tamarind / Imli - 2 teaspoons
  • Curry leaves - 10 to 12

How to make Tomato Pickle Andhra Style

  1. Chop 4 to 5 medium sized tomatoes.
  2. Dry roast methi dana and mustard seeds till they sputter. Allow it to cool for some time and grind into fine powder.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and add chopped tomatoes, sauté till cooked and mushy. Add ground methi Dana and mustard powder,red chilly powder,tamarind and salt. Mix well and cook for some more time.
  4. Take another pan,heat 1 tablespoon of oil and prepare tadka of mustard seeds. Let it crackle, turn down the heat and one by one add chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, crushed garlic, whole red chilies and heeng.
  5. Sauté well the tadka on low heat till nice aroma comes. Add the ready tadka to tomato mixture and mix well.
  6. Tomato pickle is ready to serve with puri, paratha, dosa, idli or steamed rice.
My Tip: Cover the pickle in warmed and then cooled oil if you want to preserve it for the whole year.
