Doi Katla

Ingredients to make Doi Katla

  • Katla fish - 8 pieces
  • Curd - 150 grams
  • Ginger paste - 2 spoon
  • Garlic paste - 1 spoon
  • Big Onion - 2, 1 chopped & 1 made into paste
  • Green chilli paste - 2-3 spoon
  • Oil - 1/2 Cup
  • Coriander powder - 1/2 spoon
  • Cumin powder - 1/2 spoon
  • Garam masala powder - 1/4 spoon
  • Cardamom - 1 pod
  • Cinnamon - 2" Piece
  • Bay leaves - 2 small
  • Water - 1 Cup
  • Salt as per taste

How to make Doi Katla

  1. Wash the fish pieces. Pat dry. Marinade with salt. Heat half the oil, fry the fish pieces and keep aside.
  2. Heat remaining oil in the same pan. Add bay leaves and cinnamon - cardamom.
  3. When they release aroma, add chopped onions and fry until they are golden.
  4. Now add ginger, garlic paste and fry for 3-4 minutes. Add onion and green chilli paste and saute fir 4-5 minutes.
  5. Add curd and cashew nuts paste. Cook for 3-4 minutes. Add salt.
  6. Now add the water and when start boiling add the fish pieces. Cover the pan and cook for 7-8 minutes or until the gravy is thickened.
  7. Now sprinkle the garam masala and cover for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Your doi katla is ready, serve with hot steamed rice.
My Tip: Do not add turmeric as it will ruin the white colour of the gravy.
