Ingredients to make Hyderabadi Iftar Dal

  • Bengal gram/chana dal - 250 gm
  • water - 340 ml
  • Chopped coriander - 3-4 tbsp
  • Finely chopped green chilies - 2-3
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • lemon juice - 1 tbsp

How to make Hyderabadi Iftar Dal

  1. Soak the daal for about 2-3 hours. Add the water and daal in a pressure cooker and cook.
  2. If the daal has been soaked for more than the prescribed time, 3-4 whistles would be fine. However, if the daal has been soaked for lesser time, then about 5-6 whistles should do.
  3. Make sure that the daal is still firm and not mushy. Put it in a dish and add salt, chilies, coriander and lemon juice. Mix gently till everything gets incorporated.
  4. Serve hot.

My Tip:

You can even add in black pepper. It tastes really good with daal.
