ABOUT Hyderabadi Iftar Dal RECIPE

This is a very popular Hyderabadi dish at Iftaar during Ramadan on a daily basis. A unique recipe that every fasting person relishes. It is healthy and a great choice for Iftaar time.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Bengal gram/chana dal - 250 gm
  2. Water - 340 ml
  3. Chopped coriander - 3-4 tbsp
  4. Finely chopped green chilies - 2-3
  5. salt - 1 tsp
  6. lemon juice - 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Soak the daal for about 2-3 hours. Add the water and daal in a pressure cooker and cook.
  2. If the daal has been soaked for more than the prescribed time, 3-4 whistles would be fine. However, if the daal has been soaked for lesser time, then about 5-6 whistles should do.
  3. Make sure that the daal is still firm and not mushy. Put it in a dish and add salt, chilies, coriander and lemon juice. Mix gently till everything gets incorporated.
  4. Serve hot.
