Ingredients to make Chingri posto

  • Small/medium prawns-200gm
  • Poppy seed paste-5 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder-2tsp
  • Green chillies-7-8
  • Kashmiri red chilli powder-2 tsp
  • Salt and sugar as per taste
  • Onion- 1 sliced
  • Potato-3 ,cut into small cubes
  • Kalonji-1 tsp
  • Mustard oil

How to make Chingri posto

  1. Marinate the prawns with turmeric powder and salt for around 15 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and stir fry the prawns lightly.keep aside.
  3. In the same oil add kalonji.let it splutter.
  4. Then add the chopped onion and potatoes and fry till golden brown.
  5. To it add the poppy paste and mix well.
  6. Then add the turmeric and red chilli powder.Add little water.
  7. Cook for around 7min.
  8. Next add the salt and sugar and stir well till the oil comes up on top.
  9. Add the prawns and cook for another 5 min.
  10. It should be gravy and not watery.Adjust the water accordingly.
  11. Serve with hot rice.
My Tip: Do not overfry the prawns and add them in the end.
